Hoya Australis
Hoya Australis
Description
Hoya Australis is an incredibly fast, upright vine, growing aggressively vertically up trees, trellis's or your macrame hanger! Known for its stunning cluster flowers that present large clusters of fresh white star shaped flowers with delicately smooth petals with a touch of pink under the inner star. Hoya are epiphytic plants, leading the vines on most Hoya to be more sporadic, they love to find something nearby to wrap themselves around. From chair backs, to cabinets, shelving or other nearby plants, the Hoya vine really does exude lots of character as it twists and reaches to find something to hang on to.
Sizing
Hoya Australis Vine can reach extreme sizes when grown indoors, with some vines reaching up to and exceeding 15'. Many growers will wrap the branches around on a trellis or shelf and allow the Hoya vine to keep reaching new lengths, while others will cut the Hoya vines down to more manageable sizes to encourage more branching and more aggressive growth from lower down on the plant.
Care
Hoya Australis prefer great light environments, from East to South - West, these plants love high & Direct Light. If you don't see new growth from your Hoya yet, it may not be getting enough, so we recommend keeping it in a well lit, direct light environment and if that space is unavailable, you can substitute your lighting with 26W Grow bulbs that can be placed into nearby floor lamps.
Fertilizer
Hoya prefer a high phosphorus feed to encourage flowering, and we find our All Purpose Fertilizer is a great feed for most Hoya collectors that are trying to encourage flowering an new growth. You can use our Gaia Green bloom encouraging fertilizer to encourage your Hoya Australis to bloom :)
