At Braeheid Gardens in Grande Prairie, Alberta, we know that gardening in northern climates requires plants that are truly built to handle our winters. Our preorder program was created to help gardeners across the Peace Country access a wide selection of cold-hardy trees and shrubs rated for Zone 2 and Zone 3, all suitable for our Zone 3a growing conditions. Rather than relying on plants that may struggle in our climate, we focus on varieties that are known for their durability, performance, and long-term success in northern landscapes.
Each season our preorder program gives customers the opportunity to reserve plants before they arrive at the greenhouse. This includes a wide range of ornamental shrubs, ornamental trees, and hardy flowering plants that bring colour, structure, and long-term beauty to your yard. Popular favourites like hydrangeas, lilacs, roses, and other landscape shrubs are included in our seasonal lineup, alongside a variety of hardy trees and shrubs chosen specifically for our region. Many of these varieties are plants we’ve stocked and sold for years because we’ve seen how well they perform for local gardeners.
For those interested in growing their own food, our preorder program also includes productive plants like an Edible Tree and a variety of hardy edible shrubs. These plants are selected for their ability to thrive in colder climates while still producing reliable harvests. Plants typically arrive in early May, just in time for the main planting season in our region, and customers are notified by email as soon as their orders are ready for pickup.

The New expanded Tree Lot
In 2024 we expanded our Tree Nursery adding an additional 5,000 sqft of growing space now boasting over 7,500 sqft of Nursery Space, and started offering Caliper Spec trees, up to 15' tall. Through the course of the season stocking over 15,000 Trees & Shrubs for the Grande Prairie Community.
Every season we kick off the New Year offering special pricing for early shoppers, with 15% off MSRP by simply booking your plants ahead of the season. This year I'm about 2 weeks behind schedule because this years Pre-order is over three times as large as our previous biggest Pre-Order, and we put some new features in place to streamline the process for you online shoppers.
You can now find the discounted price right on the product page, without needing to add your plant to you cart to see the discounted price. Making planning your space a little more convenient for you.
As well, right from the front of any Pre-Order collection page you can find a "choose Option" button, which will open a preview screen to give you details of the Pre-Order, when you can expect the plants to arrive as well as the pricing up front after you tap the "See Options" button.

We'll send you an order confirmation email explaining details regarding delivery date and pickup schedule, and you can rest assured knowing you saved some cash, you planned ahead and you spread out your Gardening budget!

Now with that said, there is a caveat that should be said out loud. It's always possible for stuff to go wrong. Crop Failures, Wildfires, unavailability's. But you can know, that in the 8 seasons we've been hosting our Pre-Orders less than 1% of Pre-Orders have ever been affected by any delay. We had the great Double Flowering Plum shortage in 2022, and a complete crop failure on Western Chokecherries in 2023. Tundra Haskap issues in 2024. In those situations, we're always eager to work with you to remedy any issues. It may look like making exchanges for similar plants that fit your space, slight delays of a week or two to secure the original plant, or a complete refund. But rest assured, that over the years, any issues that arise are few and far between.
